How to decrease space taken by my site?

My site is currently over the fair use limit (whoops!) and I am trying to decrease the space it takes up. I am new to building a web presence, so not too familiar with this side of things.

My site is verrrry image heavy. I assume memory-usage is tied to some kind of media library. Will simply deleting images on my site (using "Delete Object") be enough to actually decrease my usage? The "Space taken by your site" tracking number on the homepage doesn't seem to update very quickly (either that or I'm terribly ineffective at trying to use less memory)

Related, will embedding a webpage take up less space then uploading a media file? I am thinking of hosting the images on another site and simply embedding the image link to my hotglue.

Hi there, I also had this issue as my site is for art and videos. I went through every single image I had up and resized to be an appropriate web size (like 1-200 kb in most cases, or, by measurement, a couple inches). You can use MS paint or if using mac, pretty sure you can do it in theie basic photo editor. It was very tedious lol. Save the files separately so you dont lose your good quality images! I'm not sure exactly how much space it reduced but the pages load way faster now, so i imagine it reduced a fair bit.

You can also use an online image compression service like tinypng.com to do bulk image compression.
